Stake.us is unavailable for SC play in 22 states: AZ, CA, CT, DE, ID, IL, IN, KY, LA, MD, ME, MI, MT, NV, NJ, NY, PA, RI, TN, VT, WA and WV. That is the operator's own list, read live from its "Restricted states on the platform" help article on September 14, 2026, and it is one of the widest in the category: of the brands we rank, only Shuffle.us carries more codes in our database, and that entry is itself flagged for re-verification. Two things a reader should know about that list. First, Stake.us publishes a second one that disagrees with it: its welcome article, stamped 13 days later, names 20 states and leaves out Indiana and Maine, both of which we file as banned. We use the longer list because a player shut out of 22 states is better served by the safer document, and our report on the two conflicting Stake.us state lists sets out how each one grew. Second, the list has only ever grown, and nothing has ever come off it:

The exclusions also track the litigation. California is where the LA City Attorney suit originated, New York is where the underage-gambling suit was filed, and New Jersey is where the class action naming Drake sits. Illinois is the odd one out, because it has no ban statute behind it and we could find no Illinois cease-and-desist letter for Stake.us under any of the seven spellings we tried when we went through the board's own document server.

Oklahoma is the state to watch. Stake.us reportedly stops serving Oklahoma players on October 30, 2026, ahead of the state's November 1 ban, but when we re-read its restricted-states article on October 16 it still did not name Oklahoma, and its terms only let you redeem Stake Cash you have played through three times - what that means for an Oklahoma balance.

One inconsistency on this page is ours rather than the operator's: the State Coverage cell in the scorecard above still reads 18, the figure our brand database carried until this correction. Which governments have sued Stake.us?

  • The Los Angeles City Attorney filed a civil enforcement suit against Stake.us on August 29, 2025 - the first-ever US government civil enforcement action against a sweepstakes operator. It names Stake.us, its affiliated streaming platform Kick, co-founders Ed Craven and Bijan Tehrani, and 12+ gaming suppliers, alleging an illegal gambling enterprise under California's Unfair Competition and False Advertising laws.
  • Florida's attorney general sued Stake.us on August 19, 2026 in Hillsborough County circuit court (case 26-CA-009028), seeking forfeiture of money lost gambling and alleging deceptive trade practices. It names Sweepsteaks Ltd, Easygo, Medium Rare N.V., Kick, Praxis Tech, Breeze Labs Payments and both co-founders. What private lawsuits does Stake.us face?

  • A New York lawsuit (filed around April 7, 2026) alleges the platform enabled underage gambling among users aged 13-19, and names Coinbase as an alleged crypto on-ramp despite Coinbase's own anti-gambling terms. It moved to federal court on July 15, 2026, and on September 8, 2026 every defendant, Coinbase included, moved to send it to arbitration.
  • A New Jersey class action names Stake, Kick, and streamers Drake, Adin Ross, and DJ Akademiks, alleging a scheme promoting illegal gambling to New Jersey residents; that case moved to federal court too. On September 18, 2026 the court referred it to mediation with retired federal judge Dennis M. Cavanaugh and stayed every deadline, by consent of the parties. Nothing has been settled.   • A Virginia federal class action (filed Jan 3, 2026) accuses Drake and others of using Stake.us in connection with alleged racketeering tied to music-stream inflation - now sent to individual arbitration.

  • Stake.us and Stake.com are not the same company, and several of these filings turn on that. Stake.us is Sweepsteaks Limited, a Cyprus company (HE436222) running the sweepstakes model; Stake.com is a real-money site under Curaçao-licensed Medium Rare N.V. Both sit in the EasyGo group under Craven and Tehrani, and they share platform software but not the legal product. Stake.us's own New Jersey removal papers argue the complaint there "explicitly conflates Stake.us, the only Stake entity named as a Defendant, with Stake.com, a separate, nonparty entity," while an Alabama RICO complaint alleges the two share Curacao licence 8048/JAZ and calls it "a casino with a sweepstakes alibi" - an allegation we could not independently verify. Not because of the lawsuit alone. Florida's attorney general sued Stake.us on August 19, 2026, but the complaint asks for no emergency order, so it does not by itself close Florida accounts, and Florida was not on Stake.us's 22-state restricted list when we read it on September 14, 2026. Is Stake.us leaving Oklahoma?

Reportedly, on October 30, 2026, two days before Oklahoma's sweepstakes ban takes effect on November 1. That date comes from a reported Stake notice; no Stake.us terms or help article we could read names Oklahoma yet. Only Stake Cash played through three times can be redeemed, so check an Oklahoma balance now.

Can I sue Stake.us, or do I have to go to arbitration?

The terms you agree to carry an arbitration clause, and courts have split on it: a Minnesota federal judge refused to enforce it on July 1, 2026, and Stake.us has appealed to the Eighth Circuit, while federal judges in Mississippi and Massachusetts sent players to arbitration. In the Massachusetts case the court confirmed the arbitrator's award on October 16, 2026, holding two players to the clause. A new player can opt out only by signed written notice within 30 days of opening the account.
