WOW Vegas Blocks Iowa Sweeps Coins Play From October 6

By SweepsPatrol News Desk · Automated research pipeline, editor spot-audited · Last verified OCT 10, 2026

WOW Vegas stopped Sweeps Coins play in Iowa on October 6, 2026, when its SC Game Rules version 31.0 made Iowa the 16th US state where SC play is restricted, though Iowa players can still sign in.

That makes WOW Vegas the second brand in our Iowa checks to stop Sweeps Coins play there, after High 5 Casino, whose Sweepstakes Rules already exclude the state even though its help centre still listed Iowa as open. It's also the brand at the top of our sweepstakes casino rankings. WOW Vegas has published no notice, wind-down window or redemption deadline for Iowa players in any document we could find, and its rules let unused Sweeps Coins expire after 60 days.

What did WOW Vegas change?

Two WOW Vegas documents changed on the same day. The SC Game Rules served by its content API now open with "VERSION: 31.0 PUBLISHED: 06 October 2026". The definition of Permitted Territories covers the US "excluding Idaho, Nevada, Washington, Michigan, Montana, Connecticut, Louisiana, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, California, Tennessee, Indiana, Maine, Illinois, Iowa".

Iowa is last on that list. The help-centre article players are pointed to, "Which states and territories are excluded?", carries a page timestamp of 2026-10-06T10:27:23Z and now reads:

Restricted Locations from SC play: Michigan Montana Connecticut Louisiana Maryland New Jersey New York California Tennessee Illinois Indiana Maine Quebec (Canada) Iowa

The copy we stored before the change had the same list and stopped at Quebec. The help centre had stamped that version July 14, 2026. Our August survey of Iowa operators also found WOW Vegas still open in the state. WOW Vegas also keeps an older Sweepstakes Rules document, version 14.0 from October 2024, which names only six restricted states. The help centre directs players to the SC Game Rules, so those are the rules in force.

Can Iowa players still use WOW Vegas?

Partly. Iowa sits on the "Restricted Locations from SC play" list, not the separate registration list, which still names only Idaho, Nevada and Washington. Read plainly, an Iowa player can still open an account and play with Gold Coins, but can't use Sweeps Coins.

WOW Vegas list States
Registration blocked (help centre) Idaho, Nevada, Washington
SC play restricted, account allowed (help centre) Michigan, Montana, Connecticut, Louisiana, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, California, Tennessee, Illinois, Indiana, Maine, Iowa, plus Quebec (Canada)
Excluded from Permitted Territories (SC Game Rules v31.0) All 16 of the US states above

The block is wider than slots. The same rulebook defines Promotional Play as "casino-style games and sports-event prediction games", so WOW Picks sports predictions are covered too. If you're unsure which currency is which, our Gold Coins vs Sweeps Coins explainer covers it.

What happens to an Iowa player's Sweeps Coins balance?

WOW Vegas doesn't say. We searched the full v31.0 rulebook and found no clause for players whose state becomes restricted. There's no grace period and no redemption cut-off date. Spree's terms, by contrast, at least say outright that a change to its Prohibited Territories "shall not entitle any players to refunds".

Three sentences in the same paragraph of the WOW Vegas rulebook put a clock on any balance you leave sitting:

  • SC "are only valid for sixty (60) days from the date a Participant received them on their Customer Account and will then automatically expire."
  • SC "may expire if a Customer Account remains inactive for sixty (60) days or more", where inactivity is "determined by absence of login activity".
  • SC "may also be forfeited if a Participant's Customer Account is deactivated for any reason".

So waiting to see what happens is the expensive option. If you're in Iowa with a redeemable balance, ask WOW Vegas support in writing now whether you can still redeem it, and keep the reply. Check you've finished verification first, because the rules make a "fully verified SC customer account" a condition of any redemption. Our guide to redeeming Sweeps Coins walks through what's usually required. We haven't tested an Iowa redemption since the change, so we can't tell you what happens.

Did Iowa order sweepstakes casinos to leave?

Not publicly. Senate File 2289, signed by the governor with effective dates of May 15 and July 1, 2026 (Acts Chapter 1092), gave the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission power to issue "cease and desist orders and obtaining injunctive relief against a person offering games of chance, gambling, sports wagering, or illegal sweepstakes in this state". We covered what Iowa's cease-and-desist power does and doesn't do soon after it took effect. On October 10 the first page of the commission's newsroom carried ten releases dated February 19 to October 9, 2026, the newest being September revenue figures. None mentions sweepstakes.

So based on the public record, WOW Vegas's exit, like High 5's, looks voluntary. It isn't a response to any order we could find. The Iowa state page explains what the 2026 law does and doesn't do.

Which sweepstakes casinos still accept Iowa players?

Most of them, going by their own documents. We read 11 operator state lists on October 10.

That's 9 of 11 still open to Iowa. If WOW Vegas was your main site, our WOW Vegas alternatives page compares the closest replacements. In our August check, High 5 was the only one of 12 brands that had left; Fortune Wins was in that sample and isn't in this one.

Is our own WOW Vegas information now out of date?

Yes, in two places. On October 10 our WOW Vegas review listed 15 excluded states with no Iowa, and our Iowa state page named WOW Vegas among brands that don't list Iowa as excluded. After October 6, both are wrong. We've logged both for correction, and this article is the record of the change until then.

FAQ

Can I still play WOW Vegas in Iowa?

You can still register and use Gold Coins. Since October 6, 2026, WOW Vegas's SC Game Rules have excluded Iowa from Sweeps Coins play, sports predictions included.

Did WOW Vegas give Iowa players a deadline to redeem?

Not in any document we could read. The v31.0 rulebook and the help-centre article add Iowa without a notice period or redemption window, and the same rulebook says SC expire 60 days after you receive them.

Is it illegal to play sweepstakes casinos in Iowa?

Iowa's 2026 law gave the gaming commission cease-and-desist power over "illegal sweepstakes" offered without a licence. It's aimed at operators, not players. As of October 10, the commission had published no sweepstakes enforcement action.
